Alexandra has been practicing Aerial Arts for the last 7 years. Her aerial journey began with a pole gift card and continues today as a teacher and owner of Urban Aerial Fitness & Vol Du Coeur.
Before becoming a full time aerialist, Alexandra owned a catering company which she ran for 5 years. Prior to that she was a semi-pro ballroom dance competitor and teacher.
My first aerial class made me realized I had zero strength, I couldn’t do a climb or mount the hoop, I felt so weak! But everyone around me was very kind and supportive and I was so inspired by their strength and they encouraged me to come back, all I wanted was to be able to one day climb the silks to the top or mount the hoop without struggle, so I kept showing up and well…. now I own an aerial studio and get to encourage others to keep trying.
Hoop! It was my first love and it still is, I love it because having a dance background it felt like I was dancing but in the air, I love spinning and flowing through it, and I absolutely love doing doubles on hoop! It’s so much fun!
I love teaching, because it is so rewarding, there’s no better feeling than having a shy newbie who’s never tried aerial and feels intimidated and take them through that same journey I went through, sharing with them something I love so much, watching their faces light up when they try their first mermaid or when they’re able to climb all the way to the top, and then seeing their progress! Watching them go from shy with not so much strength to bad ass confident strong aerialists, and knowing I got to be a part of that transformation, is something pretty amazing, this is the best job I’ve ever had.
So many things, we have amazing teachers who not only love their art but they love teaching and care deeply about their students, the sense of community here is amazing, everyone is always cheering one another and lifting each other up, beautiful friendships are made here every day, is quite a special place.
